Senate Approves Extension of National Flood Insurance Program

On Thursday, September 7, the United States Senate voted to pass a three-month extension of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The House of Representatives is expected to pass the legislation on Friday, September 8, 2017, and the President is expected to quickly sign the bill into law later in the day.

This legislation ensures that the NFIP will not lapse on September 30, 2017, and will be extended until December 8, 2017.

2017 Building NC Awards Nominations

Business North Carolina is seeking nominations for its annual Building North Carolina awards, which will be featured in their November issue. Submit your suggestions on the most important commercial real-estate projects completed in the state between July 1, 2016 and June 30, 2017 and the developer who has had the biggest impact on the industry.

Building North Carolina winners will be selected based on design, innovation and community impact in such categories as best public project, commercial project, renovation, and overall design. Submitted projects will also be considered for a Carolinas AGC 2017 Pinnacle Award, bestowed at its annual convention in January.

Entries should be submitted no later than Aug. 22.

Mecklenburg County Code Enforcement Releases Results of Customer Satisfaction Survey

During Tuesday's meeting of the Building Development Commission (BDC), Ed Gagnon, a consultant with Customer Service Solutions, Inc. provided a presentation detailing the results of a recently conducted customer satisfaction survey.  Responses indicated those surveyed were generally more pleased than they had been during a similar survey conducted in 2014.  However, the top areas of concern (ability to reach the right person, timeliness of permit request process, and timeliness of inspections) are the same as they were three years ago and appear to be more significant concerns.  For a summary of the results, please click the following link:
